Paid readings and planning

What we do, and what it costs

We read, we telephone, we write you a page of notes. We do not hire you a car, we do not take commission from anybody who does, and we will tell you when your question is a five-minute favour rather than a booking. Prices below are indicative, in rand, and include whatever follow-up telephone call the matter needs.

What we do, one at a time

Agreement read-through

from R450

Indicative

You send us the hire quote and the terms document before you sign. We come back with the excess, the cover tiers and their exclusions, the fuel clause, the kilometre cap and any gravel or border restriction, marked up in plain language with the clause numbers so you can quote them at the counter.

  • Marked-up copy of the terms with the clauses that cost money
  • A one-page summary of your real exposure in rand
  • One telephone call to walk through anything unclear

Collection plan, airport or city

from R600

Indicative

For a specific arrival: which collection point makes sense for your week, what the premium is likely to be, how to get to a town branch if that is the better answer, and a setup checklist for the ten minutes you should spend in the bay before driving onto the N2.

  • Comparison of King Shaka against two town branches for your dates
  • Printed collection and setup checklist
  • Opening hours checked for your actual arrival time

Handover walk-through by telephone

from R350

Indicative

We stay on the line while you walk the car. You describe, we prompt: rims, bumper corners, windscreen, boot liner, load cover, upholstery, odometer, fuel gauge. We tell you what to add to the damage sheet and what to insist is initialled before you sign it.

  • Live call for up to forty-five minutes at the collection bay
  • The photograph sequence sent to your telephone beforehand
  • A written note of what you recorded, dated, kept on file for you

Cross-border paperwork check

from R750

Indicative

For Eswatini, Lesotho or Mozambique. We check that the letter has been requested in time, that the registration on it matches the car, which border charges and insurance you will pay in cash, and whether the agreement's road-surface clauses allow the route you have in mind.

  • Document checklist for the gate, printed as one folder list
  • Border fee and insurance estimate in rand, per crossing
  • Written warning of any clause your route would breach

Short-term shortlist

from R900

Indicative

You tell us the trip, the people and the luggage. We tell you what class to book and what to avoid, with boot litres, rear vent arrangements, consumption on the open road and the real difference between a crossover and a seven-seater for your particular weekend.

  • Three to five vehicle classes ranked for your trip, with reasons
  • Indicative day rates for your month, high season flagged
  • A note on what the counter will try to upsell and whether to take it

Return and dispute notes

from R800

Indicative

A charge has landed and you do not accept it. We go through your photographs, the damage sheet and the assessment, draft the letter asking for the quotation and the evidence, and tell you honestly whether the charge looks defensible or whether you should pay it and move on.

  • Review of your collection and return evidence against the claim
  • A drafted letter you can send under your own name
  • A straight opinion on whether the charge is worth fighting

All prices are indicative only. They are not a quotation, they move with the season and the size of the job, and we will say up front if a matter needs more hours than the figure here assumes.

Three packages

Long weekend

R1 450, indicative

Two to four people hiring for three or four nights out of Durban, usually the Midlands, the Berg or up the coast.

  • Agreement read-through before you sign
  • Vehicle class recommendation for your luggage and people
  • Fuel, toll and kilometre-cap arithmetic for your route
  • Handover walk-through by telephone at collection
  • A short return checklist you keep on your telephone

A month between cars

R2 950, indicative

Somebody who has sold one car and not yet bought the next, or whose own vehicle is in for a long repair.

  • Comparison of monthly hire structures against short rolling weeks
  • Advice on which town branch suits a hire you will service and swap
  • Cover tier recommendation for daily commuting, not holiday use
  • Overnight parking and tracker condition check for your home
  • Two follow-up calls during the month as things change

Visitors landing at King Shaka

R2 200, indicative

Family or friends flying in for a fortnight who have not driven on our roads before, or not for a long time.

  • Collection plan matched to the flight arrival time
  • A written briefing on local road habits, attendants and toll plazas
  • Card and deposit requirements confirmed in writing before they fly
  • Vehicle class chosen for visitors rather than for residents
  • One call with the driver in the first forty-eight hours here

Send us the paperwork before you sign it

A hire agreement takes us twenty minutes to read and can take you a year to argue about. Telephone the Florida Road number or fill in the form, tell us the dates and the route, and we will tell you what the week will really cost.
