How we work

Five steps, in order, from the first telephone call to the notes you keep after the car has gone back. Nothing here is mysterious and most of it is reading.

01

You telephone, and we work out whether you need us

The first call costs nothing and often ends with us answering the question outright. If your hire is three days in a mid-size from a town branch with no border and no gravel, you probably need ten minutes of advice and not a paid reading, and we will say so. We would rather lose the R450 than take it for work that does not need doing.

02

You send the quote and the terms

Not a screenshot of the price. The full quote and the terms document, however many pages it runs to, plus the dates, the collection point, the route and the number of people travelling. If the company only produces the terms at the counter, tell us which company it is and we will usually have the wording already.

03

We read it and mark it up

You get the document back with the clauses that cost money highlighted and explained in ordinary language, with clause numbers so you can point at them across a desk. Alongside it goes a one-page summary of your real exposure in rand: the excess, the carved-out items, the kilometre position and anything your route would breach.

04

We stay on the line at collection, if you booked that

A handover walk-through runs up to forty-five minutes and we do it live while you stand next to the car. You describe each panel, each rim, the windscreen, the boot liner, the cabin and the gauges. We prompt for the things people skip and tell you exactly what to add to the damage sheet and get initialled before you sign.

05

We keep the file until the hold clears

Your marked-up document, the notes from the walk-through and whatever you photographed stay on file with us until your card hold has been released and any final statement has arrived. If a charge lands, we already have the record, which is why disputes we are involved in tend to end in one or two letters rather than a season of them.

We work on no more than a handful of hires in any week, because reading properly takes the time it takes. In the three weeks before the December holidays we are usually full, so if your trip is then, telephone early rather than hopefully.

Send us the paperwork before you sign it

A hire agreement takes us twenty minutes to read and can take you a year to argue about. Telephone the Florida Road number or fill in the form, tell us the dates and the route, and we will tell you what the week will really cost.
