Privacy and your personal information

This note explains, in ordinary language, what happens to the details you give us through this site. It is written against the Protection of Personal Information Act, which in this country is the law that governs the matter, and the national regulator for information is the body you may complain to if we handle your details badly.

Who is behind this site

The site is run by a small group of private individuals in Durban. There is no company, no registered entity and no legal form behind it, and nobody here is employed by anybody to produce it. Correspondence reaches us at 26 Florida Road, Morningside, Durban 4001, and the telephone number on the contact page is answered by one of us during the hours listed there.

Because we are individuals rather than an organisation, the person responsible for your details is whoever took your enquiry. If you want to know who that was, ask on the telephone and you will be told.

What the form collects, and nothing more

The contact form asks for a name, a telephone number, an address for reply, a subject and your message. That is the whole list. We do not ask for an identity number, a licence number, a card number or your home address, and if you type any of those into the message field we will not use them and will remove them from our copy.

Your browser also sends ordinary technical information to the server when a page loads, as every browser does with every site. We do not build profiles from it, we do not keep it in a form that is linked to your enquiry, and nothing about it is passed anywhere.

Why we hold it and for how long

The only reason we hold your details is to answer you, and where you have booked a reading, to do the work and keep the file until your card hold has been released. Nothing is used for marketing because we do not do marketing, and nothing is added to a list.

Enquiries that go nowhere are deleted within twelve months, and usually much sooner than that. Files for paid readings are kept for the same twelve-month ceiling, which is deliberately short, and then they go. If you want yours deleted earlier, say so and we will do it and confirm by telephone.

Who else sees your details

Nobody outside the four of us, with one unavoidable exception: the company that hosts this site holds the server that your form submission passes through, as any host does. They are bound to keep it confidential and they have no reason or permission to look at it.

We do not sell, swap, rent or share your details. We do not pass them to rental companies, brokers, insurers or anybody else, and we would not do it even if asked, because the whole point of this site is that nobody pays us for access to you.

What the law lets you ask of us

You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong, ask for it to be deleted, and object to us holding it at all. Telephone or write and we will deal with it without charge and without asking why. There is no form to complete and no process to navigate.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you may take the matter to the national information regulator, and we will co-operate with whatever they ask. We would rather you told us first, because most of these things are a misunderstanding that takes one telephone call to clear up.

The one value stored in your browser

This site sets a single item of local storage, which records whether you accepted or declined the cookie banner so that it does not reappear on every page. It contains no identifier, it cannot be read by anybody else, and it is not sent to us.

Clearing your browser's site data for this site removes it and the banner will simply ask again. There is nothing else stored, no analytics script, no advertising tag and no third-party code of any kind.

If this note changes

If we change how any of this works, the note changes with it and the live date printed at the foot of the page moves. We do not keep a separate archive of old versions, because the whole document is short enough to read in full each time.

Nothing in this note is a contract and none of it limits the rights the Act gives you. Where a sentence here appears to say less than the law says, the law wins.
